I am a geek. I admit it. I'm a writer and a musician and a mathematician and a rocket scientist. Bottom line, though, I have fun, and I love my job ... jobs. I was one of the early adopters of the internet, due in part to the fact that I was working as a software architect at MCI when the internet exploded, so I know my way around. Things change a lot, though, and so do my favorites.

These are some of my current favorites (so don't hold me to them in a few months):

Writers
Sarah A. Hoyt
This is my wife's official site, complete with excerpts from her novels. Check out her hot new Shifter Series. And her sexy new historical Musketeers Mysteries. And her adventurous new Magical British Empire Series. And don't miss the audio snippets of Jason Carter's (yes, that Jason Carter, from Babylon 5) tour-de-force performance of Ill Met by Moonlight, the first of Sarah's acclaimed Shakespearen Fantasy series, and a Mythopoeic award finalist!
Kevin J. Anderson
Kevin does it all: Star Wars books, Dune (with Brian Herbert), the epic Seven Suns series, hard SF, fantasy, you name it. He's an inspirational mentor. And he writes faster than a speeding bulleted list! The media dubbed Jay Leno "the hardest working man in show business," and after knowing Kevin for a few years, I'd say he's "the hardest working man in writing."
David Drake
Another great writer and a great guy, too.  And he writes everything (I'm not sure about romance, but I wouldn't put it past him).  For a good laugh, check out his joke book covers from a 2002 roast.
Dave Freer
Dave writes some seriously cool stories.  They're more layered than my feeble mind can comprehend at all levels, yet still fun to read.  His only problem is that he lives in South Africa, so we don't get to hang out nearly enough.  (Fortunately, there's Skype now!)
Cliff Laurel
Cliff's cozy mystery, B. Quick, came out just before 2006, and it's been getting a lot of attention ever since.  The main characters are wacky and fun and wonderfully addictive, like Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series.  Read the excerpt on his site and you'll see what I mean.
Kristine Kathryn Rusch
With Dean Smith, Kris was my first mentor. First, indirectly through my wife's mentoring, then later directly. I admit I'm not living up to Kris's expectations right now, but I will, Kris, I promise.
Dean Wesley Smith
The other half of my first mentoring team. Dean's a real character, and knows the publishing business inside out.
Marjorie Liu
By far, the sexiest romance writer I know. And smart as a silk whip, too. She does other genres, so be sure to check out her website to see what she's up to now.
Communities
TazWriters
Our online writer's group. Not a critique group, as most of us are published professionally (or soon to be); it's more of a support group.
Mages Pages
An online place for writers to share information and personal experiences, run by Connie Cox.
Mathematics
MathWorld
If you want to know anything about math, check here first. Don't know what a first derivative is? Need the formula for the volume of a tetrahedron? It's here.
